2005 Chrysler 300C SRT-8

The Chrysler 300 nameplate has been attached to many different cars through the years, but never to anything this powerful. The new 300 series debuted in 2005 with several trim options, but the SRT-8 was set apart by its incredible performance.  Although the SRT wore a considerably higher sticker price than other 300s, additional value was added by an abundance of convenience and luxury features. A premium sound system, GPS, and leather interior were all included.
The SRT-8 looks very similar to all other 300 models, with the exception of different wheels, fog lamps, and a slightly lower stance. The real difference is under the hood. The sedan is powered by a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 that produces 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. At 4,160 pounds, this model is just 100 pounds heavier than its V6-powered counterpart. So what happens to acceleration? The SRT's 0-60 time is 4.7 seconds, and it turns the quarter mile in 13.2. One would expect fuel economy to suffer, and it does, but not too drastically. Although it's rated at 14/19 mpg, the V8 can be reduced to four-cylinder operation when less power is needed.  
Despite the performance accolades, the first SRT was plagued by many of the same build quality issues as the other 300s. Again, small but annoying problems forced drivers in for service. Creaks and rattles were common subjects of complaint, mostly related to windows, the windshield, and the sunroof. Some also felt that the sport-tuned suspension compromised everyday ride quality. Others were too busy speeding to notice such things.
