2004 marked the first year of production for the fifth generation of BMW's popular 5-series, with the most popular car in the series being the 530 luxury sports sedan. While the inline, 3.0 liter, six-cylinder engine lacks the power offered by the V8's found in the 545, the 530 does crank out 225 horsepower and has been likened to a "locomotive engine."
And while the car has essentially the same engine as fourth-generation 530's, drivers said the power is delivered better, offering a better ride and handling. In the mold of overhauls of the 7-series, the fifth generation 530 also has a sharper appearance, with angled contours and more room.
