CarGurus' 1996 BMW 318 Review
The 1996 BMW 318 gained a bigger, 1.9 liter engine over its 1.8 liter predecessors. The results was a four point jump to 138 horsepower, although most drivers couldn't feel much of a difference from earlier models.
The differences were elsewhere, as BMW made multiple changes to its four cylinder 318. Cruise control became standard and traction control became an option. A new automatic climate control became standard and coupe and convertible models got all new alloy wheels. Rounding out the upgrades was a standard, 10-speaker, 200-watt sound system.
"once you own one, you can never drive another," gushed one owner. Others did grumble that the vehicle was expensive to maintain, but most were pleased with how well the 1996 318 held its resale value.
