The 1990 Chevrolet Corvette is best remembered as being the base model for the new ZR-1, the "Super Corvette." After many production delays, the ZR-1 was released at a price hovering around the $60,000 mark, almost twice the sticker price for the base model. Dealers were rumored to be getting over 6 figures for some of these cars.
And what did consumers get for their double-Corvette price tag? The 3,049 owners lucky enough to be able to buy one received an all-new drive train; the all-aluminum 350-ci LT5 V8 went from 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds and was rated at 375 horsepower. It was available only as a coupe, and had a wider tail section and wheels than the base model.
The base model for that year was a 5.7-liter 350-ci V8 rated at 245 horsepower.
