CarGurus' 1990 Audi 80 Review

The Audi 80 went through a redesign in 1988, reborn with a sleeker, more aerodynamic design, so not many changes were made in the subsequent years.  Considered by Audi to be its "starter" sedan, more affordable than the 100 or 200, the 1990 Audi 80 still packs in many of the interior amenities, solid performance, and high-end style that are Audi's trademarks.

This four-door family car, previously only offered in front-wheel drive, adds a quattro all-wheel drive sedan in 1990.  Quattro technology distributes the torque evenly and continuously, ensuring better traction and stability.  The standard sedan comes with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, 108-hp engine, while the quattro sports the 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine seen in the Audi 100.  Both come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, with the option of a 3-speed automatic.  In 1990, a Sport package was offered with the quattro, featuring a trip computer, extra dash gauges, and sport-styled seating.  The quattro also had a rear spoiler and fog lights, to further distinquish it from the front-wheel drive sedan.  Otherwise, both cars came standard with cruise control, power heated mirrors, and power windows and locks.  ABS brakes were optional in both models.

This is a fast little car, affordable by Audi's standards.  Drivers love that it seems to last forever without visible signs of wear and tear, it's reliable, and easy on the gas.  It's also quite speedy, particularly the quattro, once you get beyond the initial labored acceleration.  Owners mention they wish it had more power in keeping with its size, and that it's very expensive to replace parts.
