[Edit] The 2006 Explorer offers four trims, but the feel of the SUV falls into two groups: that of the V6 and that of the V8. The 210-horsepower, 4.0-liter V6 engine feels like it is constantly struggling to pull its own weight, let alone that of its passengers, cargo, or tow cargo. The 292-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8 has a much different feel, delivering the driver more of a car-like feel than the truck-like V6.
Ford remains aware of its tires for this SUV after the Firestone mishaps in the first years of the century, and tire pressure monitoring now comes standard. Other than that, Ford has continued to produce an SUV known as the standard for all sports utility vehicles.
