After the big redesign for 1982, the 1983 Chevrolet Camaro remained relatively unchanged from the previous year. However, '83 was the first year for the L69 5.0-liter HO V8 rated at 190 horsepower, and a new 5-speed manual transmission gave the car a new level of speed and performance, pushing it further away from the Mustang in the pony car corrall. The base engine was a 2.5-liter inline four rated at 90 horsepower, but the Z28 came with the new 5.0-liter HO.
