CarGurus' 2001 Audi A6 Review

The 2001 Audi A6 benefits from the powerful engines added in 2000, giving this already elegantly sophisticated car more muscle and grit to improve the overall driving experience.  Five trims are offered in 2001.  A 2.8-liter, 200-hp V6 sedan is available in front-wheel drive or quattro.  For more punch, owners recommend the 2.7T turbocharged 250-hp sedan or the 4.2-liter, 300-hp V8, both introduced in 2000.  Combined with a Tiptronic auto/manual transmission and standard quattro AWD, these beasts are ready for any driving condition thrown at them.  The A6 wagon comes only with the 2.8 V6 and quattro technology.  All 2.8 trims have a 5-speed manual transmission option.

The 4.2 is the top of the line trim, containing a monster under its hood that makes accleration much more smooth and highway passing a gleeful experience.  The turbo provides extra muscle.  The 2001 Audi A6 is also stylish, however, offering a sophisticated interior setup, and the wagon combines luxury with cargo versatility. A Sports Package adds stiffer suspension and more supportive seats.

Owners coo over the quiet, smooth ride and balanced handling of the 2001 A6, even in the heavy turbo.  While not necessarily a racing sedan, it won't let you down on the highway.  The interior ergonomics and red-lit dash are also highlights.  Uninformed and unhelpful dealer experiences cast a shadow on Audi ownership, as do the costly repairs.
