The 2006 four-door Jeep Liberty is a compact SUV offered in three trim levels: Sport, Renegade, and Limited.
Since the Liberty was slated for a new generation in 2007, not many changes were made in this model year. The big news was the addition of a turbodiesel engine, a 4-cylinder fuel-saver that Jeep says provides the torque of a V8.
This move made Jeep Liberty the only vehicle in its class to offer a diesel engine. It replaced the 4-cylinder gasoline engine previously offered on the Liberty and was made available for the 4WD versions of the Sport and Limited trims.
The other exception was in the addition of safety features, as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was added to all Liberty trims. The control-enhancing system consists of traction control, brake assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation. It senses the need for braking and power reduction at each wheel separately and transfers the appropriate response wherever needed.
Drivers like the 2006 Jeep Liberty's off-road ability and economical diesel engine option.
The V6 engine, they complain, is far less economical.
