CarGurus' 2000 Chrysler Cirrus Review

The Cirrus LXi remained unchanged for 2000, but the base level LX model returned.  The LX had been temporarily discontinued after 1997, but it was brought back for this year to fill the void left by the retired Plymouth Breeze.  Both Cirrus models were available in four new colors, and child seat straps were added in the backseat.
Once again, the Cirrus sedan was available with two engine options.  The LX returned with a new 2.0 inline four cylinder engine, providing 129 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque.  The LXi was powered by a 2.5 liter V-6, good for 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.  This V-6 was available on the LX as an option.  Performance and fuel efficiency varied little from engine to engine.  Both sent the Cirrus from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.5 seconds.  The four cylinder achieved a 20/28 mpg rating, while the V-6 fell to 19/26.
Both models were plagued by reliability issues.  Common problems included brakes, electric motors, struts, ball joints, and excessive rust.
