CarGurus' 2002 Chrysler 300M Review

A revised grille was the only notable change to the Chrysler 300M in 2002.  A second trim called the Special was added, in an effort to provide a 300 geared more towards performance.  The 300M had replaced the New Yorker, and Chrysler had initially crafted it as more of a sports sedan.  However, the sport-tuned suspension was softened in 2000, and the image of the 300 was changed.  The Special was introduced to fill the void.
The 300M's engine was a powerful 3.5 liter V-6, which generated 253 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque.  The full size sedan could reach 60 mph off the line in 7.8 seconds, and turn the quarter mile in about 16.  While the four-speed  automatic included the AutoStick manual shifter, many drivers expressed a longing for a genuine 5-speed to complement power and handling, and to potentially improve upon the 19/27 mpg fuel efficiency.  It never came.
The 300M provided very nimble handing for such a large car, and front wheel drive provided some additional stability in slick conditions.  Owners were pleased with the amount of interior and trunk space created by the cab-forward layout. The Xenon headlights were also praised for the considerable improvements in nighttime visibility. Interior part quality continued to annoy drivers, and many were also unsatisfied with the sound system.  Xenon headlights were also praised for the considerable improvements in nighttime visibility.
