the head lights turn off sometimes when i turn the turn signal on

refresh my memory of the View....to turn on the head lights, (know they are drl), but is it the same switch as the turn signal? and is it in the steering column? or console? common problems in those locations: the stalk, (switch) is faulty, or WORSE: from adjusting the steering wheel tilt, almost always on GM, the wires crimp at that bend, and short out.....
