test the throttle position sensor. Look to youtube for videos or get a Haynes manual.

I am having this problem with my 2006 Saturn Ion. The engine light is on and it drives a little jerky but mostly fine. Then when I come to a stop sign/red light and try to accelerate again, the reduced engine power light comes on and my car starts to shudder and shake like crazy. I pull over and turn off the car for about 10 seconds and then turn it back on and a couple times today the battery light came on and my car died. So I turned the car back on and barely made it to school today. I need some insight to figure it out because I have looked and looked online and in my manual and there's a lot that it could be. I am totally broke from putting money into this car so I want to see what I can find out before taking it in to a shop.
