Porsche Carrera 4 wiring harness removal

Hi I recently acquired a 95 carrera 4 awd. the wiring harness to the alternator is completely fried.. considering there isn't much room to work with in the engine bay, my question is can the engine wiring harness be removed without dropping the engine? If not, how can i access the harness through the rear seats without breaking stuff..
