Theres several reasons this can happen. (Too many to list) my advice is to buy a hand held scanner. You can pick these up relatively cheap at any auto pts store for $40-$50 bux. Theyre easy to operate & will help you get a good start at becoming more mechanically knowledgable where your car is concerned. Just get the one with the correct plug for your car. 95 & older uses OBD 1 plug. 96 & up uses OBD2 plug. Make sure the cigg lighter works, as this is where the diagnostic port gets its power.

Oh yes...one other thing concerning the OBD scanner. It will display diagnostic codes, if theres a problem, to which the answer can be found in either its handbook or internal library. Depending on the particular model. If not, simply enter the code into your google search engine. Theres a virtual wealth of info on thr web where codes are concerned. Most codes are Alpha numeric. Ex. P1860. Just enter...GM. OBD code (then code#)
