where is the thermostat on my 92 nissan stanza?

there is no thermosta housing that i can find. i even pulled the intake manifold hoping to find it near the coolant outlet. colud it have been in the upper hose?

its located below the alternator across from the radiator.

I forgot to mention that the engine is the 2.4 if that makes a difference. The car is not readily available for me to check it out, I have an a/c compressor below the alternator. Is the thermostat below that? By the way, thanks for being there.
