Why is my mercury tracer locked in park?

This may sound weird but in my 2006 Trailblazer, it locked in park once when I pulled into a parking garage and had left my gas cap off, so even if your may be on, try this, take it off, then put it back on and twist it until it clicks twice... Then with of course your switch on try to take it out of park... I do hope this works for you to....
