Fail to start

My 2001 merc.sable with its original 65,000 miles
suddenly today won't start unless it's being
jumped. It was flashing an exclamation type of
light and was clicking like a bad starter. But the
battery and starter are new and I've had no prior
trouble with starting or anything. After being
jumped and started the car stI'll wont start on its
own. Could it be the voltage regulator?

It could be. How long ago you replace starter? Replacements are rebuilt units and are not perfect. You may want to test your starter multiple times.

    97 sable wont start has a good batterie it powers up . I can put a screwdriver to the starter and it will start then it runs fine
