Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Contour makes loud clunking sounds, front right, when turning the wheel in either
direction.  It is worse when making tight turns in either direction.

Your car has bad front axles. The rubber boot covering the outer CV joint breaks and dirt and water get in and ruin the joint. The repair is approximately $250 per side. May only need one.

Axle shafts (with CV joints) may be purchased for approx. $75-$85. The rest is labor.
