should I buy a used Kia

I am interested in purchasing a used 2005 Kia Spectra. It seems to be pretty good condition. THe only problem is that a while ago when I went to look at a used Kia Sportage and took it to a mechanic he said "stay away from Kias'. I really can not afford a Honda or Toyota.In my price range I can get a newer Kia or Hyundai and would prefer that over an old Honda or Toyota. So should I check it out? Also does is come with an alarm?

I have owned a Kia Borrego for 4 years and had to do nothing but change the oil and 2 sets of tires. Kia is a good vehicle.

Take it for a test drive also look on the ground for any leaks. If the price is right & below book value I would go for it if you like it.
