Same thing happened in daughters 99 about a year ago. The key fob went out. Spare lost long ago. Bought two from Autozone for about 50 bucks. Easy to program, directions in box. If you want to get one from Ford, spend a little over an additional 50 bucks and you'll accomplish the same thing.

If you got 12 years of use out of a key fob you did great. I also noticed my local hardware store sold the fob for about ten bucks less than autozone. A lady purchased one while I was there and the clerk activited the thing in about three minutes.

To reprogram the remote, hit unlock button, rotate key quickly from off to run 8 times (ending on run), the doors will lock and unlock to indicate you are in programming mode. Press any button on the remote and hold, doorlocks should cycle. Fixed. If doors do not cycle, remove battery cables for one minute, then reprogram. Usually you do not have to remove cables but sometimes required to clear programming (reboot).
