what is the thumping noise coming from the right side of the motor when i use the heater controls

i seem to get a thumping noise coming from the right side of the motor when i use the defrost in the morning after the truck has warmed up  and when i shut it off the thumping noise starts after ive shut it off

You could be hearing a mode control or blend motor in the heater unit that is telegraphing the sound. If the engine is shut off nothing is moving in it but the heat/AC system stays active for a few minutes after shut down.
