Loss of power to cigarette lighter and power outlet in console

Asked by Docinfiniti Nov 25, 2014 at 09:54 PM about the 2005 INFINITI G35 Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had an inverter plugged into my cigarette lighter plug. The inverter died and seemed to
have shorted out the lighter plug. Could it be just a blown fuse, or will I have to replace the
plug. A satellite radio was also using the power to the plug and it does not work either.

Sounds like a fuse. Have you checked your fuse panel to see if there are spare fuses inside? I had two brand new inverters that were bad. One roasted itself and my fuse and the second one just roasted itself because I yanked it out immediately. I plugged in the replacement one a year later and it roasted. No more inverters from Newegg. :)

check the fuse, if bad replace it with one of the same rating not higher. If that fuse blows quickly, then check all wiring to that outlet for damage, you may have a short. Also make sure whatever you plug in to the outlet is not drawing more amperage than the fuse is rated for. If this is the case then the fuse is simply doing its job, protecting circuit from overload.

If all is well with the fuse and wiring, check the outlet with an ohm meter when it is disconnected from the wiring.
