Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When pressing down fully on the clutch on  2001 ford escort the starter grinds against the flywheel of vise verser.Took out starter to check for function ability the was found to be good however the teeth on it were worn due to it hitting against the flywheel when engaging the clutch.Replaced the starter and the same problem occurred.Found two switched on clutch and don't know what either of them are for.Could it be the cause of the problem, either of those switches on the clutch?

You may have some play in the crankshaft, causing the flywheel to shift slightly when the clutch is pushed in.

I found the cause of the problem I had with my flywheel hitting against the starter in my 2001 ford escort. The problem was electrical. The starter switch wire connection behind the switch had shorted out.Replaced the switch wire connetion and problem was solved
