any sticky relasy problems?

Asked by bobbymo Sep 12, 2013 at 12:41 PM about the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My batt. went dead and when I connected the charger it drew a  strong arc and I heard a relay chattering when I connected the charger to the battery. After I poked around, trying to determine what the problem was, it stopped and I charged the battery and it has been OK since.

Nice that there are no problems, but you are just really lucky- you can mess up a modern car's electrical system by not connecting chargers or battery cables correctly, in the right order- worse, MUCH WORSE, a battery can explode in a your face throwing acid all over the face and into the eyes- could ruin your day- next time, don't be messin' around with batteries if you don't understand the procedures or the consequences

I have seen that happen. Guy learned the hard way...I don't like name calling and saying he was stupid, but let's put it this way: he did a stupid thing. Opening caps to check electrolytes with a cigarette hanging from lips, I feel bad for the dude he is literally scarred for life. The H ignited less than 6 inches from his face, he is blind in one eye to boot. I was there, in the shop. horrible
