can I put a 318 Dodge motor into a 1989 Dodge Dakota sport 4 wheel drive short wheel base

It will fit but you may have to buy an oil pan for that application, also motor mount location may have to be changed

shouldn't be an issue if you get a 318 from a Dakota or change oil pan. you will have to run electric fans like the Shelby's did.
