how do I get the gas tank float unstuck?

even with a full tank, the gauge does not work. what to do?

Have you checked the connections on top of the tank? How old is the fuel pump and sending unit? Had a ford ranger once that the float in the tank had a hole in it and it would fill gas and remain on bottom of tank. Removed fuel pump and repaired the float to fix.
