1993 dodge dakota 5.2 gas guage does not work? where do i start?

bought this used truck and the gas gauge does not work? where would i start looking?

The old rule of thumb that I use is if it is always on F the hot wire is disconnected or broken. If it always is on E the ground wire is disconnected or broken. HTH. - Jim
