Sudden acceleration

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. Last month I bought a 2003 Escape XLT 4WD/V6. While driving home from work I experienced sudden acceleration resulting in an accident. Even in park the car was doing 4000 rpm. I understand Ford had recalled some models for a defective accelerator cable but no my specific VIN. Anyhow, my insurance company said that the car was checked and is ok. As of writing it's still in the body shop and I'm going to get a second opinion regardless. Has anyone else every experienced this, and if so what was the cause? Thanks in advance
