The engine needs 3 things to run, fuel, air and spark, you need to check these things first. Is it getting fuel or is the fuel in the tank old and perhaps with water in it, is the air flow clear, how is the air filter and can you see a spark when you take out a spark plug and start it with the plug grounded ? Start on these things the cheap easy things.

ans one more thing when you turn the key to on with out starting can you hear the fuel pump, you should be able to hear it with the drivers door open.
