Power Steering trouble

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On a hot day after the truck has been running for a while. The power steering quits working. As soon as the truck cools down or on a cooler day it works fine. Changed the fluid and put some Lukas power steering fluid in it as well. Do I have to change the pump or should I drain the system and try new fluid again? Thanks for your time.

i would try changing the pump. it doesnt have to be a new pump but i dont think it would help to drain it twice.

try changing your sepertine belt.if it has one or the power stiring belt as they were and get hot they will slip and you will loose the P S.

only a serpentine belt. Still could be something to look at but since the fluid was already changed, its most likely a worn pump.

Oh one more thing, does it whine and make noise? If it doesnt it might not be the pump. It could be the rack and pinion going bad.

Don't just throw parts at it, you can do a p.s pressure test, that will tell you if it is a bad pump.
