My 2006 dodge stratus is heating up, we took out thermostat thinking that was it, it stayed cool after we took it out. So we thought that was the issue. Now it's getting super hot again! What is wrong

Are your cooling fans kicking on when hot? How does the color of your coolant look? Is it nice and green, or red, or is it mud brown?

The fans are working and the coolant is nice and green. My step- dad thinks the head is cracked! will be tearing down the top of the motor and see what we find. Does this sound like its the case to you? Thank you for your help!

Wouldn't it be easier to have the head pressure tested rather than tear down the motor?

I didn't know there was such a test? Do I need to take it into a shop to get this tested or is this something that we can do ourselves?

You need to bring it to a shop. Unless your step dad doesn't mind tearing it all down. If it fails the test he will end up having to tear it down to fix it anyhow.
