the latch has already been latched...there's some debris preventing full travel...try unlock and opening so the pawl springs back to the "ready to accept" the loop~

Your '12 Chrysler is probably still under warranty. Tie the trunk lid down and drive to your local Chrysler dealer so they can fix it for free. HTH. -Jim
