Could you please clarify where is the water leaking form the back of the engine ? Look at the back of the manifold and if its not there, look on each side of the engine block, to see if a freeze plug is rotted or backing out.

2.5, ? If you removed the tbelt to get to it and removed it as a unit there is a main coolant pipe under the manifold from pump to upper radiator output hose on the back of the pump on the pipe is a o ring if you didnt grease the o ring its torn and will need come apart to repair problem. If its a 2.7 liter consult a repair manual. As i havent ripped into one yet.
