I was driving my Hyundai Elantra and ran over a raised pothole. I immediately heard a loud bang. I drove a few more feet and the noise continued. It seemed to be coming from the left underhood/tire area. A chemical smell came in the vents and white smoke came out the hood. There were no puddles under the car however. Any ideas?

Take it to a dealer and get an estimate, and turn it in to your insurance. I think this falls in to the 'accident' category, and your insurance should pick up the bill, it sounds like, from what you describe might be expensive. Then contact whomever 'owns' or maintains the road where you live (wherever it happened I mean), the City, County, and file a claim which will be denied but there will be a record of it, then let your insurance carrier go after them.
