Can I transfer a different ECU (w/ identical part no.) into my vehicle without having to "recode" or flash it?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am looking to buy a different (used) ECU for my 1998 Cadillac Catera, which has an
identical part number to the existing one. Is there anything I need to do to the new one
before installing into the vehicle? If not, are there any special instructions for completing
the installation?

Same motor, same tranny, same year. As long as the replacement computer is functional it will work. If you don't know the history of the ECU someone may have modified it with a handheld tuner! Just use caution .
