Put the transmission in gear to release it. The parking brake may not release automatically due to a failed vacuum switch or actuator.

Our emergency brake got stuck on and would not release. My husband looked up under the dash next to the emergency brake and there is a yellow tab there. Just push it and the brake will release, but be sure and keep your hand on the emergency brake peddle because if you don't, it will release very quickly and hit you.
