Water usually doesn't get into the transmission when there is a leak because there is a higher pressure inside the transmission than the pressure outside. If the fluid has leaked so much that you cannot drive it, then don't. Check the transmission fluid before you drive it. The transmission is the most complex, intricate, least understood and most often neglected part of people's vehicles. I would recommend that you fix the leak, change the fluid and then check the fluid periodically after to make sure no more is leaking. -- Replace your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles.
