would a faulty oxygen sensor cause the accelerator not work?

Depends what you mean by "accelerator not work" The PCM adjusts mixture based on feed back from the oxygen sensor(s). so an engine running too rich can over time foul up spark and engine starts to run like c--p; it can cause too lean which can screw up your engine over time also. So if you mean your car isn't performing the way it once did -then yes- a failed oxygen sensor can cause your car to run lousy. In other words it may not accelerate the way it should.
