Check you hotel switch located in the center console. Make sure it is in the unlock position. When locked the trunk can not be accessed by button or remote.

Mine still doesnt work. It shows unlocked. When I press the trunk button on the inside it makes the noise to open but it wont lift it up.

I didn’t know the Hotel switch existed - this solved the problem on my 2015 650. I was close to taking it in to my local BMW dealership ... I hope they would have determined that this was the problem, but if they did I would have still paid a service charge.

Thank You!!! That was the problem. My detailer must have hit the switch. Sure enough it was in the lock position.

My 04 745i opens with the fob and mash button underneath the dashboard but will not open with the key or mashing the button on the rear of the car.
