2002 530i or 2003 530i??

Asked by jhash01 Sep 22, 2012 at 07:58 PM about the 2003 BMW 5 Series 530i Sedan RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Have been seriously considering getting a used 5 series and have come across a couple of contenders.
first theres a 2002 530i with about 70,000 miles on it, sports package, going for $9,900. Also have seen a
2003 530i with only 58,000 miles but priced a little higher at $10,950. any suggestions?? really appreciate
any feedback!

Research the two years on edmunds.com then go test drive both then decide. I would really say price or milage is a factor since they are so close. I would recomend maintenance records and a carfax.

all depending on the maintenance records, have dealer check them both out for you, then u know what ur getting into.both cars are the same.the 03 is a good deal if can get the price lowered. I was Service Manager at a BMW dealer when these models came out. The 530s were the best at the time, drove like a 3 series but bigger car. Also extremely reliable, rare to have them come in for repairs unless it was for routine maintenance.

The one with the manual is the one to choose. The slushbox is not what you want if you are planning on purchasing an E39. Mileage is irrelevant, especially on these vehicles. You will still have the same mechanical issues in time. What colors are you looking at? Personally, I am partial to Ti Silver ad Barritz or Monaco Blue.
