You may need a helper for this one. I have found that using your hands and gently applying extra force, and sometimes a little wiggle in the direction the hood opens will dislodge the catches. You may need to adjust the retainers after you get it open.

what this guy said ^^ someone to hold open the latch so it doesn't close while you try and wiggle it loose. And remember, it opens to proper way (hinges on the front of the car)

The same but sometimes you need to give it a little bump in the closing direction. And check if the cable is not broken, if it is remove the left lung and get your hands inside to the hinge lock and unlock it by hand.
