Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought this BMW M3 2010 a few days ago. I drove in from Dallas to Tulsa on a really hot
day. About 4 hours. When I got home i noticed the oil sticker on the windshield said they
used the wrong oil when they changed it.  5w 30 instead of 5w 60. Does anyone think it
may have damaged the engine. Of course I will get it changed immediately. I just want
some advice please. I am new to the M3. Thanks

Describe "really hot". The 60 weight is pretty thick oil designed to keep things lubricated.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I think it was 96 degrees on the highway and I was pushing it here and there for fun. So I averaged 75-80. But pushed it passing other cars a few times. Thanks again.

Russ, well, you know, you can't reverse time , unless you're Superman, and that's just a movie (LOL). Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it since you changed the oil to the proper viscosity. I mean, you're not going to open up your engine to examine it, are you? Just drive the car and enjoy!

If I were in your situation I would not be worried about damage. Either take it back to the dealer and have it resolved or do it yourself.
