2010 Expedition door handle does not spring door open

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got a 2010 Expedition, there were a few problems that I was able to attend
to, but this last one has me fooled.
When I pull the handle to open the driver door, it opens the door, but there is no
tell tale - "spring" outwards that all the other doors have.
Wondering if anyone has noticed this before and why it might be happening before
I tear the door apart looking for whatever.  I am guessing there is some kind of
spring action in the door that is either detached or has lost its tension.
Thanks
George

sounds like the handel needs replaceing, nothing spring loaded in it.

2nd Gen (maybe 3rd Gen like yours as well) do not have a thick enough seal between the door and the vehicle body, especially as the weatherstripping ages. This can allow the door to clunk back and forth slightly when driving since the door does not have tension pushing it outwards from weatherstripping that should be compressed slightly from a closed door. That same compression from a closed door is what makes it "spring" open slightly (or not) when you pull the handle. I'm dealing with the same problem on my 2006. Some people have inserted surgical tubing into the weatherstripping to make it thicker. This did not work for me but I plan to keep playing with it.
