the gp had a 5.3L front wheel drive engine
the G8 has a 6.0L rear wheel drive
and the G8 GXP has a the 6.2 LS3 engine
It does appear that they are equal in HP. The only difference I see is looks. I really like the G8 GT look. I still think I'll keep
my 2004 GP GTP.
The GP GXP and G8 GT are hardly equals in terms if horsepower, handling, and overall quality. The G8 GT had about 60 extra horses (and probably 100 lb. ft. of torque), and is rear wheel drive. Handling is far and away better on the G8, and fit and finish is top notch. Think of the G8 as a BMW M5 on the cheap!
It's a 4-door GTO and then some. I own a 2004 GTO (yeah, the "slow" one), and the G8 is underpinned by an updated platform/chassis with better handling.
Their was a GXP Grand Prix that had a 5.3 V8 with just over 300 HP. But it was still FWD. The G8 GT and GXP with V8 and RWD is a BIG upgrade. I had an 04 GTP Comp G and the G8 GT is a much better car. Handling is amazing and the power is so much fun.
no grand prix are garbage and the G8 is the one and only nice car pontiac has now that the trans am and gto are no more.
