Anyone having problems with dashboard cracks on Infiniti vehicles ??

Asked by Noaamore Sep 26, 2015 at 08:08 AM about the 2008 INFINITI M35 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 08 Infiniti M35S with a dashboard that is showing signs of
deterioration. In the last month the dash has developed soft spots and several
cracks have appeared in scattered areas all over the its top and along seams.
Infiniti acknowledges the problem and has extended the warranty to 8 years
on their FX models and will replace the dashes for free but don't offer that for
any of their other models.

I do not have any issues. I had an 06 and I got it detailed every three months so that may have helped.

I too have had serious issues with the dashboard on a 2007 infiniti M35. I noticed approximately one year ago markings on my dash and a small sticky spot in the drivers side dash. Then cracking begun and now there is a very large sticky shiney area. As of today the same is starting in the passenger side dash. I visited Infiniti in Austin about a month ago and they said it was due to something that I used on the car. Ha!!! Guess that have not done and Infiniti Quality check on the web. This is quite an issue and I have seen worse pictures of their product and it is only going to get worse. There currently is a law suit underway , class action in Florida going to trial in July this month about this exact problem. Found it in 10 seconds online when I put in the problem I am having. I do not see how to post pictures here but I am just getting started and am shocked what I am finding about this issue.

I bought my 08 M35 used in from a Cadillac dealer near Ft Ladurdale Fl. It was in perfect condition inside and out. Only had 24k mi. A couple years ago I began with the EXACT problem you are having. I talked with several Infiniti dealers about it to no avail. Apparently the problem is worse the the Infiniti FX. Infinity extended The warranty to 7 years for the dash in those models. No extension for the M's. Hopefully the lawsuit is successful . The alternative is to fork out over $1600 to Infiniti to replace the dash.

I have a 2006 M35 and my dash board is cracked all over. I have contacted Infiniti consumer affairs on the 02/23/2016 and 08/04/2016. They don't consider this issue a safety factor so therefore they will not fix the problem. I would encourage everyone to contact consumer affairs and create a case#. The number is 1-800-662-6200. The more complaints the better off we will be.

I have an '07 M35 and my dash is a mess. I really like my car and the maintenance dept. in Tampa is fantastic compared to BMW, but I won't be buying another Infiniti because of this. We've had 2 Hyundai's, a Ford, 2 BMWs and a Chevy and we have never had a problem with any dashes on those cars.

I have a 06 M35, I have the same problems. I am hoping the passenger airbag recall will make them replace it. Otherwise it was priced over $2000.

Just to let everyone know I currently working on finding a lawyer that can give me advise on class action lawsuits. Toyota currently has a recall on the dash and they are replacing them. I don't understand why Infiniti will not do the same.

Thank you! I would like to know what you find out. I want my replaced at their expense. They deny there is a problem and blame the owner for damaging the dash. Unbelievable really! Will not be able to sell a car with a defective dash .

I have an 08 G37, my dash is a mess, sticky and cracking you can not even clean it everything sticks to it. I have contacted Infinti, they say there is no recall and offered no assistance except to say a dash who be around 2000 to replace.

That is just what mine is doing on both sides of the dash. It is a mess. My infiniti dealership offered no replacement . Said it was my fault something I put on it. Guess they think I can not Google! They are no help and the company should be held accountable for putting out a defective product. If you hear of any class action suits started I would like to be a participant.

I'm hoping when I take mine in for the airbag replacement that the dash cannot be ignored - - if you touch it it will crack - - good luck getting the airbag out without disturbing my delicate and flawed dash!

I didn't have any noticeable issues with the dash on our 08 M45, other than a small scratch near the cluster hump and kept covered with a nice dash mat to preserve it. However now forever marred after the airbag recall notice and the dealership's handy work. They have to get pretty invasive to get to the passenger side bag. The pic shows the left & right side of the center bezel that houses the center speaker. You can see where it was pried up on both sides collapsing the foam and vinyl covering, looks pretty ugly now and the dealer service dept wrote it off as "It was like that when you brought it in", period and told me to take it up with corporate if I had a problem with their post work outcome! That's not including some cuts/scrapes in dash bottom of the info screen were they dragged some parts in and out of dash. Guess I had two options, worry about an potentially dangerous exploding airbag or depreciate the value of the cosmetics of the dash.

I have 2007 Infiniti M 35 the dash is cracked both driver side and passenger side called Infiniti told me it was out of warranty told me to negotiate with dealership to fix for half-price have not done that yet I am going to call infinity customer affairs and complain and hope that the class-action suit in Florida makes infinity realize they need to replace the dashboard I'm trying to sell my car and with the crack – it's almost impossible

I am having the same exact problem with my 2007 Infiniti M35 with dashboard cracking everywhere not along the recall of the airbag has not been replaced yet. I noticed the same sticky area on the dashboard in my vehicle as well. My car is well very maintained with low mileage and garage kept. I contacted my service advisor and he has indicated that it's not much the dealership will do because the age of the car. My vehicle is still under warranty and my service advisor at Austin Infiniti has also informed me that he would have to place an order for the recall part of the airbag. I also did contact Nissan Consumers but to no avail it didn't seem to be much help on their end. Please let me know if there is a actual lawsuit out there somewhere because I would like my dashboard to be replaced since this vehicle was suppose to be a luxury car in the infiniti brand market and the amount of money that was paid for it thru Nissan Infiniti. I feel at though this is factory problem that should be fixed by the Nissan manufacture when these particular vehicles were produced to sell to consumers.

My 09 g37 garage kept. Has 53,600 miles on it and have owned it for less then 8 years. The dash is cracking. Contacted Nissan Head quarters in TN. and was offered no help from Claudia Marquez., Senior Director of sales operations. Seems they think this is acceptable on there cars, smh. I have reached out to 4 attorneys that handle Class action law suits.

Just got my car back from the NHSTA 16V-349 airbag recall. They're not doing anything about the cracks in the dash at all. They even take pictures before and after to make sure they don't have to do any repairs to the dashboard to ensure no monetary loss on dealerships behalf. Infiniti cares about protecting it's bottom line and will not do what's right and recall the faulty dash. The only resolution that is feasible is to contact an attorney to file a class action lawsuit. Other than that we're just all pretty much screwed... smh

EVERYONE needs to go to www.NHTSA.gov and file a complaint about their dashboards ASAP. This agency then investigates and can get the ball rolling with recalls of the dashboards. I have not had my airbag replaced as of yet. Still waiting on parts. My passenger side dash board cracking is worse, sticky, messy, shiny and the drivers side is now peeling.Austin Infiniti in Austin, Texas like many on this forum told me I put something on it that caused it to breakdown. I actually used what they recommended on the car and it has been mostly garage kept. Mark Bailey Service Manager as been no help after the last complaint I filed. The company obviously is not going to do anything on their own so as many people as possible need to contact Consumer Affairs Infiniti 18006626200 and file a complaint and with the National Safety Board ASAP.

I would be interested in participating in any lawsuits against Infiniti. It appears there is a safety issue with a dash deterioration such as this. My car looks just like the above photos but worse. I will be posting the latest.

Well guys I got a follow up form Morgan and Morgan. This is What they said: Thank you for allowing Morgan & Morgan to review your potential class action claim. After review, we have decided to decline representation on your behalf in this particular matter. Our decision does not mean you do not have a viable claim. Rather, it simply means that we have made a decision not to represent you. We strongly suggest that you contact another attorney immediately for assistance, as law firms evaluate cases differently and another attorney may believe a claim can and should be pursued. If you choose to contact another attorney, you should do so immediately as all legal claims are subject to a statute of limitations. In other words, if your claim is not filed against the responsible parties before the statute of limitations expires, then you will be forever barred from bringing a claim. Because we have not investigated your case, we are not making any determination as to the statute of limitations applicable to your claim. The statute of limitations in your case may have expired before you ever contacted our law firm, or the statute of limitations may expire in the very near future. As such, you should act quickly to avoid jeopardizing your potential claim. Although we are declining to represent you at this time and will not be filing any lawsuit on your behalf, we wish you the best and again thank you for allowing us to review your potential case. Please consider calling us in the future if the firm may be of service to you. Finally, please be advised that if you have a separate claim being investigated or handled by another Morgan & Morgan attorney or department (such as a medical malpractice or personal injury claim), this letter does not impact that other matter. This only relates to the potential class action you brought to our attention.

Well, apparently the dashboard cracking problem is not going away. My wife's 2012 G37x coupe just started developing the dashboard cracking problem. The car has ~40k miles and has been treated like a baby and garage kept. The dealer said it was not covered and there was no TSB but they said they would send the pictures to Infiniti USA. I will report here when I get a response. This is my wife's second Infiniti (she has a G35 before that that we traded at ~100k miles with no issue whatsoever) but if this is not handled appropriately, it will be the last. I have never seen that on any of my cars and that is the last thing I would expect to see on a "semi-luxury" car.

2006 M35 here, and I'm in Florida. I have never applied anything other than water to clean my dash, and it's now cracking everywhere. And it's soft, so if you allow your fingernail to touch it, you end up with a gouge. So I looked up the class action lawsuit. It was finalized in January 2017, but only for Nissan Altimas. So I'm screwed with my dash in my 11 year old $65,000 car. Thank you (not) to Nissan/Infiniti.... Opening two paragraphs from the class action site are pasted below. "A federal court has granted final approval of a settlement Gibbs Law Group and co-counsel reached with Nissan to resolve class claims that 2008 and 2009 Nissan Altima cars have defective dashboards that melt and become shiny, sticky, and reflective when exposed to sunlight. Judge K. Michael Moore held a Final Approval order in Miami, Florida on January 5, 2017, and issued a Final Order and Judgment approving the settlement and class counsel’s fee application. Under the terms of the settlement, Nissan will cover all but $250 of the cost to replace melting dashboards. Altima owners who bought their 2008 or 2009 vehicle in Florida and currently reside in Florida qualify as class members. Class members who have already paid to have a melting dashboard replaced can submit a claim to be reimbursed all but $250 of the cost." ...and it goes on into more detail, but there you have the date of the decision and also who members of the class are. Good luck...

Cracks running all over the dash of my 2007 G35. Soft, sticky mess! Like it's melting right in front of my eyes. Pulled up a 1 inch square chunk when I took my radar detector out a few days ago. If you even touch it you are left with gouges. Never seen ANYTHING like this and I have owned Chevy, Ford, Lincoln, Isuzu, Nissan, Toyota and Cadillac in past. I am DONE with Infinity at this point. DONE!

My dash has been cracking for a while, but thanks to the recall of air bags for the M35, the dealership had to replace my dash for FREE when they replaced my air bag. The reasoning behind the FREE replacement is that when they try to take the dash board out the car it cracks more and falls apart, so therefore they must replace the dash.

I have a 2005 G35 Coupe. I keep my car garaged everyday and baby it, and the dashboard still keeps getting sticky as if it is melting. According to other people, Infiniti used poor materials to make the dashboard. The same thing happened to Toyotas, but they had a recall for it. Infiniti currently doesn't have a recall out, but please make complaint to your dealership, Infiniti, and the NTST or NHTSA as I have. You can call Infiniti's Consumer Affairs line at 800-662-6200, and make a complaint with the NHTSA at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

I have a 2010 G37 with 75k miles in the Tampa area. Always garaged, we’ll taken care of. All maintenance has been at the dealership- Lokey Infiniti. Bought used in 2013 with 42k on it. Love this car other than the cracks in the dashboard and the leather seats. Interesting to see I’m not the only one with the issue and the same response from Infiniti. I will say Lokey service has been amazing but there’s nothing they’ll do for the cracked interior so far. I’ll push them again when I take it in.

Same problem here. Cracks all over dashboard. Always garaged, dealer maintained, and always used sun shade on windshield. Orlando dealer told me that I have to pay out of pocket to have it fixed as Infiniti has not issued any recall on it. '09 g37 coupe- first and only owner.

I have a 2010 G37 convertible. Hardly driven, garaged, really well maintained and detailed, same problem. Dash is starting to go. Noticed a dry white residue coming out of it now. Also the seats are cracking. The infinity dealer replaced the seat belts and door cards for free, after warrantee, so that's a recall. But the dash is really a disappointment. I love this car but will be selling it soon.

I have a 2009 G37. Dash is cracking from one side to the other just like all of these photos. Always parked in my condo parking garage when home and work parking garage, so virtually no sun exposure. The Dash has always been kept up with Meguires and Mothers cleaners and protectants. Products I’ve used in dozens of other dashes with zero issues. Until one of these dashes cracks right across an airbag and that somehow allows the air bag to blow, they won’t be covering this. This is a cosmetic issue and they won’t be helping owners of vehicles out of the 36mos bumper to bumper warranty...

Ironically enough i stumbled upon this site when an Infiniti service manager told me to google for Infiniti cracked dashboards. I took my car in for a steering column recall. After 3 days in the shop we get our car and it’s full of these cracks that my car NEVER had. The service manager told me that because my car is old (2008 with 59,000 miles stored in a garage) it is normal wear and tear and they’re not fixing it. It seems they’re using this defect as a scapegoat to avoid fixing their carelessness. They didn’t even acknowledge that messing with the steering column could have caused hidden cracks to become Bigger and visible. Nope it was 100% blamed on the age of the car and i was told that it was coincidental that the cracks appeared while my car was left there. I will write to corporate and all That good stuff but i know they won’t do a thing. My car depreciated in value drastically in just 3 days. The service manager told me i should have googled before calling them and i would have seen all the complaints. No, what i should have done is googled to see what crappy reviews your service department has and how Infiniti has lowered its standards.

I live in Florida. My 2011 Infiniti EX35 also has dashboard cracks. It's garage kept and has 62K miles. I see complaints all over the Internet about this problem. I see Nisson/Infiniti lost a lawsuit about this for Altimas. But, I can't find any similar suit for Infinitis of this vintage. I did file a complaint with Infiniti. The lady said to file a complaint with the BBB and I did that. And after reading this thread, I filed a complaint with NHTSA. It's ridiculous that a beautiful, higher end car has a disintegrating dashboard!

I live in Florida. My 2012 FX35 also has cracks in the dash. I talked with my local Infiniti service/warranty department who told me it is neither a warranty recall nor a defect repair that would be covered by Infiniti. I spoke with a rep from Infiniti Consumer Affairs who said that they are aware of cracked dashes in Florida and Arizona because it gets so hot. I've had both Acura and Honda vehicles, both in Florida, prior to two FX35s and ONLY the Infiniti models have had issues. Infiniti will not replace/repair my dash. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT that a company will not make good on an obvious defect, ESPECIALLY AT THIS PRICE POINT! I wish I could post ALL the pictures of the cracked dash here, attached is just one of many.

This cracking started about 3 years on a 2010 G37 sedan with about 36000 miles. We cared for. Nissan/Infiniti want $3400 to replace the cracking dashboard, $3600 to replace the cheap garbage plastic headlights that completely frosted from UV damage and $800 to replace the burned out bulb behind the clock. Of course, this will be the last Nissan or Infiniti I ever purchase. Clearly, these are problems. These costs make no sense. Why would someone pay those premium prices for junk parts? No more Nissan products for us...ever

Nissan/Infiniti has never been the same since Renault took them over around 2000? I owned a lot of Nissan vehicles but Im not buying another one. My wife has a 2000 I30 now and its been excellent for 120k miles but it was hit recently. Its really one of the last real Nissans so no dash issues, no oil burning issues after 60k, No trans issues at 70k, nope' none of the problems like Ive seen looking for a replacement car for her. I manufacture OEM parts at Guardian/SRG Global. We make parts for all makes/model cars including Nissan,Toy, GM, Ford, Mopars, Harley you name it we make parts for them. Nissan once had quality control levels as high as Toyota prior to Renault's ownership demanding absolute perfection but those days are long gone. The makers added PVC in these dash pads making them to help impact resistance but PVC has too low melting point/low UV resistance for cars so it breaks down way too fast. Why PVC picnic tables/furniture warps/cracks fast in direct sunlight. Why Vinyl siding fails to last many decades like Aluminum siding but it is far cheaper though. Just a shame Nissan no longer builds their cars how they once done. We had a 1988 Maxima wagon before our Infiniti and it drove much better, was more comfy and had no mechanical issues till about 320k miles, I sold it in 2004. It was a minor issue and my friend bought it for his son who drove it "everywhere" for 8 more yrs and then he sold it. We saw it 2yrs ago still going but don't expect that qualty anymore. Just very sad to know Nissan fell from grace all the way down to Chrysler level quality but here we stand today. My old 73 Datsun pickup never looked as bad inside as all the 50/70k mile Infiniti's I've looked at. Pick any model you want they all look like this inside, replacement dashes crack again too btw.. When I sold my Datsun truck it still looked/ran perfect with over 360k miles but they are no longer Nissans now folks, they are Renaults. Renault sent junk cars here yrs ago till sales dropped so bad they stopped. Here they are buying better name brands to slap on their junk Renaults. Run Forest Ruuuuun!

I recently acquired a garage-kept, 2007 M35 with only 16k miles. Mint condition except for the dash which is literally disintegrating upon touch. I ordered a dash cover from https://coverlaymfg.com - Great fit and despite not exact OEM color match, it was pretty much spot on. The adhesive they provide isn't the best, but I might have to tack down a few areas with some stronger silicon adhesive. Anyway, it's a good alternative. Before / After pic attached.

1 people found this helpful.
180

Wow that's great news, it looks much nicer. Fwiw- I learned a very thin layer of silicone holds much better than a thick bead in in many cases so you may want to try that here? More is not always better? Sure you already know this but both surface areas must be very clean or silicone just dont stick well. Id clean both sides with rubbing alcohol or a degreaser, let it dry good, then glue it down. Thanks, yes I can live with this easier.

I noticed within the past year that my dash is cracked all over. Infinity is also not helpful and advise that I replace the dash at over $2,000.00 not including labor. After spending thousands of dollars, this is ridiculous. My car is garage kept, 2007 M35, 27,000 miles! I considered the coverlay but was concerned about matching the color. Guru's photo above looks great. Anyone know the name of the color? I was wondering if any class action suits have been filed.

My 2009 Infinity FX 35 (1st production Jan 27th 2009) Dashboard has cracked from one side (air vent) to the other. It is always been garage kept and this crack is below the dashboard. It is not at the top or Sunday. I need the same crap that many of the GEN one Infiniti FX 35 vehicles had with the passenger airbag. I believe this is the same issue and Infinity just hasn’t been forced to do a recall. I also called community consumer affairs and took it to the Infiniti dealer with out any real help. I don’t know what to do next, but this is obviously a manufactures defect.
