why does the xc90 phone not support the multi-sim feature?
By: rambo - Dec 23, 2007 at 03:39 AM
About: 2008 Volvo XC90 V8

I recently bought the XC90 and i really like the integrated phone. When i tried the multi-sim card in it though i found it wouldnt accept the sim activate command. a few weeks after sending a query to Volvo, i was informed that it doesnt support the multi-sim option. This means that i have to use a different cell number for the car and this is quite inconvenient. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a hardware choice made by Volvo which is impacting your lifestyle.  Perhaps the vendor with the best deal on in-car phones sold a product which didn't support the multi-sim card, but in order to get the price down, they went with it -- typical mfg. theory is "yes, some people will be upset, but we'll save X million dollars at the price of upsetting a few hundred people."  Unfortunately your only option is to use the two different cell #'s, or just use your regular cell instead of the integrated phone.

Thanx for your reply. I'm not sure if that really is the case coz the owners manual does refer to double sim (same as multi sim) cards being supported in markets where the telco supports them.
