how much transmission fluid do I put in on my '88 civic automatic

ran engine til it was hot and checked tranny fluid and it was inbetween low and high on the dipstick.  
Also the car wasnt shifting from time to time on a short drive.  How much if any fluid do I put in?

I guess perhaps half quart at a time and check it?

If it's between the hash marks, you are fine. If you want to add more, go a little at a time, once it's in there it's a lot of work to get a small amount back out. Add just a little and recheck. IF you have issue with it shifting, adding a little fluid won't help at this point. Best to do a drain and fill to see if it helps.
