Gear lever moves but wont shift out of reverse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had the vehicle in reverse and it moved and operated fine. Once I moved the lever to change gears the lever moved but the vehicle stayed in reverse. Are there any ideas on what the issue may be and possible options to fix it? Probably obvious to say but it is an automatic transmission.
