Check for a blown fuse in your rear compartment. Also you probably have a blown/leaky shock. Dont drive to much you will damage more things.

2006 BMW X5: SELFLEVEL SUSP. INTACT - Started when I had the battery replaced. Is there a reset switch somewhere? Owners manual says to take it to the shop - surely there is a reset somewhere.

I purchased a pair of new air springs for $99.00. I don't remember which site, but if you search "Air Springs" for the year, make, and model of your car you'll find them. My mechanic installed them both for $200.00. The self-leveling indicator light went out right after. You can also relieve yourself of the problem by doing an "Air Spring Conversion". You can remove the Air Springs, and replace them with conventional coils, & shocks. SUNCORE makes the best conversion kit. Search for them. The conversion also comes with a "Warning Light Module" that will remove the "Inactive Indicator warning".

How do I fix the SELFLEVEL SUSP INACT MY BMW IS REALLY PUMPY WHEN YOU DRIVE IT ON THE ROAD

You can search online for air springs. Prices vary as low as $108.00 for a rear pair. A great solution is to convert your suspension. Search online for; year/make/model of your cars "air spring conversion". Suncore Co. offers a conversion kit that converts the front and rear to coil springs with rear shocks and front struts. It comes with warning light cancel device. All for about $1,300.00

I do not believe there is a reset. Does your vehicle have the ride height raising and lowering button on the dashboard? Is this functioning? Does it actually raise the right height and lower the right height when you press the buttons? If your ride height is no longer adjustable from the dashboard. If I were to guess I would say your air ride suspension module is fried. Unfortunately that is a $750 part and you cannot get them after market. You can try junkyards or eBay for used ones but they are usually not that reliable.

Easy fix! Don’t own a bmw if you can’t take it to Bmw . They give great warranties!

There is no reset. More than likely it's a module issue. One day BMW will realize that the air springs in the X5 are totally not necessary. Dozens of SUVs even larger ( especially U.S. made ) dont have them, and have ride better for the life of the car. Rule of thumb: If you dont have a leak, than its a module issue." I finally got mine fixed, and gave it to my daughter. Bought a Range Rover. Only to find they have similar issues, but your able to control it with the dial on the console.

PULL BOTH THE 7.5 AMP FUSE AND 30 AMP FUSE ON YOUR X5 LOCATED IN REAR LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT ON RT SIDE PANEL . THEY ARE NUMBERED AND THERE IS A LEGEND WHICH HAS PROBABLY FALLEN OFF AND RESTS IN BOTTOM OF THAT PANELS INTERIOR. PULL FUSES AND COUNT TO THIRTY WITH CAR OFF. PUT BACK IN AND SHOULD HEAR PUMP WORKING FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS...

I've got the "selflevel susp inactive" warning on the dash, though my 2006 X5 4.4 has coil springs. what's with that? I'll check the fuses.

That infamous “selflevel susp inact”...Once activated it will stays on until you scan the vehicle properly with a software called “ISTA/D”, to erase this message it needs a EHC Ride height adjustment. Either you use a usb K+D Can cable or the ICOM which is more expensive than the usb one with a Laptop. The warning can come from a bad level sensor, an air spring leak, not enough air supply from the compressor and so on, remove the battery won’t do anything. The software will tell exactly what is wrong with the car, but I strongly recommend you to watch some videos on Youtube to learn how the program works. Search for “BMW Doctor”, that guy will explain everything in detail about most BMWs and the applications. As I said... I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO WATCH HIS VIDEOS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! Information is key!

I scanned my vehicle, did the adjustment correctly and the message disappeared. Moments after driving like seconds after the message reappeared. When I looked at the rear suspension, my air spring left was lower than usual. Going to the mechanic to change both of my air spring just to make sure it won’t happen anytime soon!
